Tea Time with Sholom Aleichem

Say the name "Sholom Aleichem," and many people automatically think of
"Fiddler on the Roof." Based on the stories of the prolific Yiddish writer Solomon
Rabinowitz (1859-1916), "Fiddler" gives just a hint of the writer's brilliance, wit and
ear. And yet, Rabinowitz the man was nothing like his literary creations. Suave and
urbane, Sholom Aleichem (Rabinowitz) spent more than a quarter century as a
stockbroker and lived in such "non-Fiddler" cities as London, Rome, Geneva and
New York. This one-man show portrays Sholom Aleichem the man, as he tells the
story of his life, interweaving stories of the Eastern European Jewish community
from which he came.
